THE METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH SOUTH OF CHECOTAH IS THE SOLE SURVIVING EXAMPLE OF FEDERALIST REVIVAL DESIGN USED DURING THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY FOR METHODIST CHURCHES. BUILT OF SMOOTH-FACED RED BRICK WITH A LIMESTONE WATERTABLE, THIS TWO-STORY CHURCH HAS A LOW-PITCHED HIPPED ROOF WITH CROSS GABLES. ON THE INTERIOR, THE CHURCH IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A CORNER PULPIT TYPE, POPULAR EARLY IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 11/13/1984. |
